One in eight women in Pakistan is diagnosed with breast cancer

KARACHI: Health experts say that one out of every eight women in Pakistan is affected by breast cancer.

Speaking online at a webinar jointly organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pink Ribbon Youth Awareness Program on Public Awareness of Breast Cancer organized by the Dow University of Health Sciences, experts said that developed countries are aware of this deadly disease. The treatment is 80% successful.

In middle-income countries, breast cancer is treated up to 60%, but in a low-income country like Pakistan, only 40% of the disease can be cured, and the main reason for its low rate of treatment is lack of awareness. ۔ Experts urge Pakistan to take precautionary measures against breast cancer
Experts said that breast cancer is a treatable disease, its timely diagnosis not only makes it possible and easy to treat, breast cancer is spreading rapidly around the world, there are many public health problems in Pakistan, women Breast cancer can be dangerous and deadly.

Head of Breast Cancer Unit Civil Hospital Karachi Professor Farhat Jalil said that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. In case of breast cancer, it is treated through surgery, chemotherapy or hormonal therapy. Early diagnosis minimizes harm to the patient and makes treatment easier. From the age of 20, women should have a monthly self-examination.

He emphasized the importance of having mammography in women over 40 years of age and said that if any symptoms of lumps or lumps were felt in the self-examination, a specialist should be consulted immediately and Dr Needle would perform a biopsy for a final diagnosis. In women, complications from late diagnosis can sometimes lead to the removal of half of the breasts. More than 40,000 women die each year from breast cancer.

Assistant Professor Dr. Amima Saleem said that 2.1 million women get breast cancer every year in the world. Breast cancer also accounts for 15% of all cancer deaths. Pakistan has a higher rate of the disease than Afghanistan and India. In Pakistan, 23.2 out of every 100,000 women suffer from the disease, compared to 18 in Afghanistan and 13.4 in India.

It was informed in the webinar that in the light of the directive of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Saeed Qureshi, all facilities have been provided for the breast cancer patients in the Civil Hospital Karachi, with the full support of the Sindh Government. Due to which this expensive treatment is possible for any patient without spending any money, the patient can get his treatment only by submitting his CNIC card, 2 photos and sometimes without form.
