Maharashtra: Ranjit Sun Desali, winner of the UN’s ‘Best Global Teacher’ award in Indian villages, has donated half of the prize money to other teachers involved in the competition after winning 1 million (Pakistani rupees 160 million).
Zila Prashad Primary School is located in a village called Parti Wadi where Ranjit teaches especially girls and is very active for their education. He and his friends nominated him for the Global Teacher Prize 2020 under the auspices of UNESCO and the Work Foundation, which included 12,000 new teachers. All these teachers are generally committed to the educational mission and serving the society in spite of their problems in developing countries.
Among them was a Kenyan teacher who was spending 80% of his own salary on the poor and students. While Ranjit takes an extraordinary interest in the education of girls and also encourages the tribal society there to educate girls. In addition, Ranjit learned the language of the villagers and applied QR codes to textbooks that broadcast lectures, videos and information in the local language over the phone. He also developed the QR code for school attendance, which is now being used all over India.
The award was presented at a virtual ceremony held at the famous Natural History Museum in London. However, they accepted لاکھ 500,000 out of 1 million and distributed the remaining لاکھ 500,000 equally to the remaining nine semi-final teachers, each receiving 55 55,000. They included teachers from Malaysia, Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Nigeria, South Africa, South Korea and Italy.
