Misbah-ul-Haq announces resignation as chief selector

National team head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has announced his resignation from the post of chief selector.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Misbah-ul-Haq said, “We have 10 important commitments in international cricket in the next two years, some of which are tours that will make it difficult for me to act as chief selector and watch domestic cricket.” ۔

“Seeing this, I spoke to the board because when I came here, the only thing that happened was that if anywhere I felt it was difficult for me to make time for both positions, I could resign,” he said.

“Looking to the future and focusing more on cricket, I felt it was the right time to step down as chief selector and I told the board that I wanted to focus on coaching,” he said.

It should be noted that the performance of the national team in the tour of England was very disappointing and the national team was able to win only one victory.

However, regardless of his performance, Misbah was also criticized for holding two important posts like head coach and chief selector. After the meeting of the standing committee, the chairman of the PCB had said that Misbah should be appointed. One has to resign.

He had said that talks had been held with Misbah-ul-Haq and he would have to resign from the post of head coach and chief selector.

Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is being touted as the strongest candidate for the post after Misbah-ul-Haq stepped down as chief selector.

Shoaib Akhtar himself had confirmed that talks are underway with PCB Hakham for the post of chief selector but nothing has been decided yet.

It may be recalled that the PCB had decided not to extend the tenure of the selection committee and coaching staff after the ICC World Cup 2019.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq did not show interest in continuing his work after the World Cup, while the coaching staff headed by Mickey Arthur was also dismissed.

Former coach Mickey Arthur had expressed his desire to be retained as the national team coach for next year’s World Twenty20, but expressed frustration with the PCB’s decision.

For the first time in the history of Pakistan cricket, the post of head coach and chief selector was given to one person and the lot was drawn in the name of activist Misbah-ul-Haq while Waqar Younis was given the post of bowling coach.
