Karachi: Karachi Kings defeated Quetta Gladiators by 7 wickets in the opening match of PSL.
In the opening match of Pakistan Super League, defending champions Karachi Kings defeated Quetta Gladiators by 7 wickets. Quetta Gladiators gave Karachi Kings a target of 122 runs to win which Karachi lost by 3 wickets in 13.5 overs. Achieved.
Earlier, Karachi Kings won the toss and elected to field against Quetta Gladiators. Tom Bunton and Sarfraz Ahmed started the innings for Quetta. However, both the openers could not provide a good start and Tom Benton scored only 6 runs. After which captain Sarfraz also returned to the pavilion after scoring 7 runs.
After the openers were out, Chris Gayle resisted the Karachi bowlers and scored 39 runs, but he was also out on a total score of 68, while Muhammad Nawaz was run out shortly after only 3 runs.
Azam Khan scored 17 and Ben Cutting scored only 11 runs for Quetta. Due to the superb bowling of Karachi Kings, no player of Quetta could stand on the wicket for long and the entire team was bowled out for 121 runs in 18.2 overs.
For Karachi Kings, Arshad Iqbal took 3 wickets and Waqas Mahmood took 2 wickets while Mohammad Amir, Amir Yameen, Emad Wasim and Daniel Christian took one wicket each.
In pursuit of Quetta Gladiators’ 122-run target, Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam started the innings for Karachi. However, Sharjeel, who came in the opening over, was dismissed for just four runs, while Joe Clarke, who came down one, scored 46 runs.
Opener Babar Azam scored 24 runs while Colin Ingram scored 17 runs and Mohammad Nabi scored 30 runs which helped Karachi Kings reach the target of 122 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
