The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has said that the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has approved the trial of the third phase of the Code-19 vaccine developed by Chinese company Kansinobio.
The NIH said in a statement that the third phase of the vaccine would be tested for the first time in Pakistan, developed by Kensinobio and the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology.
The statement said that the vaccine is already being tested by Casino Bio in China, Russia, Chile and Argentina and will soon be launched in Saudi Arabia.
Regarding the vaccine, it was said that the clinical trial of the vaccine will be overseen by NIH Chief Executive Officer Major General Amir Ikram.
According to the NIH, AJM Pharma chief Adnan Hussain had signed an agreement with the NIH for a joint trial of the vaccine and named it the Novel Corona Virus Vaccine Eden Virus Type Five Vector (Ad5-nCoV). ۔
“This is a joint trilateral activity of NIH, Kensinobio and AGM and will be researched at leading medical centers across the country, including Aga Khan Medical University and Indus Hospital Karachi, Shaukat Khanum Memorial,” the statement said. It added that the National Bioethics Committee (NBC) of the Pakistan Health Research Council (PHRC) has approved the research, while clinical trials have also been approved by the world’s largest regulatory body.

Describing the development as a good omen for Pakistan, he said: “This initiative could open the door for public-private partnerships which will help the private sector to become self-sufficient in the development of exceptional vaccines.”
The institute said the project would also paint a positive picture of the country.
“As a participant in this activity through the NIH, Pakistan will be one of the first countries in the world to have access to the COD-19 vaccine,” the statement said.
The statement on changes in vaccine development said that in the past few months, Casino Bio has made rapid progress in developing the Code-19 vaccine, with technology being sourced from China and Canada.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal claimed that China would supply a vaccine for the corona virus to Pakistan on a trial basis developed by the China National Pharmaceutical Group (Synoform).
The report said that the Chinese state-owned company was working with the University of Karachi to test the synoform vaccine.
It was further said that Pakistan would receive enough vaccines to cover about one-fifth of the population.
Earlier in April, Synoform had offered the NIH a trial of the Code-19 vaccine in Pakistan.
