Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has telephoned US President-elect Joe Biden to congratulate him on his election victory and vowed to further deepen strategic ties, calling the election victory a demonstration of the strength of US democracy. ۔

Modi said in a Twitter message on Tuesday that Modi spoke on the phone to congratulate Biden and reiterated his commitment to a strategic partnership between the two major democracies.
The Indian Foreign Ministry said that Prime Minister Modi warmly congratulated US President-elect Biden on his election, calling it a testament to the strength and resilience of US democratic traditions.
Modi had forged close ties with Trump, with the two leaders holding a joint rally in Houston last year and again in Modi’s home state of Gujarat during Trump’s visit to India.
Critics of Modi have said that Prime Minister Modi was dangerously close to endorsing Trump’s candidacy and that it could hurt India under the Democratic administration.
During Trump’s presidency, India and the United States came closer as both countries sought to counter China’s growing military and economic influence in the region.
During the telephone call, Modi also extended best wishes to Kamala Harris, the son of an Indian immigrant who was elected US Vice President.
