The Pentagon statement added that President Trump had ordered the withdrawal of 2,000 of the 4,500 US troops in Afghanistan and 500 of the 3,000 US troops in Iraq.
The caretaker Secretary of Defense, Chris Miller, said in a statement that the withdrawal of 2,000 troops from Afghanistan and 500 from Iraq would be completed by January 15, leaving 2,500 troops in the two countries.
It should be noted that in the peace agreement with the Taliban this year, the United States had promised to withdraw its troops, while after the death of General Qasim Soleimani of the Quds Force in Iraq, it was decided to reduce the number of troops.
