Microsoft announces that employees will be allowed to work from home on a permanent basis

Software company Microsoft has announced that it will allow its employees to work from home on a permanent basis due to the global epidemic Corona virus.

According to The Verge, due to the health crisis, most of Microsoft’s employees are currently working from home and the company does not plan to open its offices in the United States by January next year.

Microsoft will now allow its employees to work from home for less than 50% of the working week, or will be allowed to work from home on a permanent basis.

Employees who choose to work from home on a regular basis will leave a designated space in the office but will have the option to use the touchdown space available in Microsoft’s offices.

“The global code-19 epidemic has challenged us all to think, live and work in new ways,” Microsoft’s chief executive officer said in a statement.

“We will provide as much flexibility as possible in the way we work at the individual level, while balancing business needs and ensuring the culture in which we live,” he said.

Although most employees will easily benefit from doing less than 50% of the work from home, some will find it difficult or even impossible to move on a permanent basis.

Microsoft has identified a few that require access to the company’s offices, including hardware labs, data centers and in-person training.

Employees may also be allowed to move work home with approval, and they may also be able to transfer work internationally if the specific role of the place or some people is applicable.

Compensation and benefits will change after Microsoft allows employees to work from home and they will be dependent on the company.

In this regard, Microsoft will bear the expenses of the home office of the employees working on a permanent basis, but whoever decides to move away from the offices of Microsoft will have to bear the cost of relocating himself.

In addition, there will be flexibility in working hours without the approval of managers and employees can apply for part-time work through their managers.

Microsoft’s decision comes months after the company decided not to open offices in the United States until January 2021.

Microsoft allowed employees to work from home in March, following the outbreak of the corona virus in Seattle and then across the United States.
