Rockville: Drinking sugary drinks at least once a day can increase your risk of liver cancer, according to a new study.
Researchers from various organizations examined 90,504 women between the ages of 50 and 70 with postmenopausal women for about 19 years.
The researchers wanted to see if the use of sugary drinks, such as fruit juices and soda drinks, was linked to liver cancer.
In the study, scientists found that women who drank soft drinks at least once a day were 73% more likely to develop liver cancer than women who drank three or more drinks a month. Used to drink
According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, liver cancer is the sixth most commonly diagnosed type of cancer in the world. According to the American Cancer Society, cases of the disease and related deaths are on the rise in the United States.
Studies conducted prior to this study found evidence that other beverage habits may affect the risk of liver cancer, such as alcohol being associated with a higher risk and coffee with a lower risk.
According to Longing Xiao, a doctoral candidate at the University of South Carolina and lead author of the research, the findings suggest that reducing the consumption of soft drinks may help reduce the risk of liver cancer.
The research was presented by scientists at the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition, June 14-16.
