Religious scholar faces trial in Switzerland on ‘rape’ charges

Another woman has been charged with “rape” by Tariq Ramzan, a 58-year-old Swiss cleric of Egyptian descent who is considered one of the most important religious figures in Europe and the Middle East.

Tariq Ramadan was initially accused of “rape”, violence and “sexual exploitation” by two new Muslim women in France in 2017.

At the time, Tariq Ramadan was a professor of religious studies at the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

He was fired after allegations were made by the women, while French police took him into custody and interrogated him.

He was later charged with “rape” and “sexual exploitation” by at least three other women, and the five women have been under investigation in France for some time.

Tariq Ramzan continued to be severely criticized after being accused of ‘rape’ by women and was kept in police custody for a short period of time, but he could not be prosecuted and punished.

A French court recently fined Tariq Ramadan around تقریبا 10,000 for defaming the five women accused of defamation.

According to Arab News, Tariq Ramadan was sentenced by a French court in a November 8 hearing to a fine for defaming women accused of “rape”.

Tariq Ramzan was accused of writing the names of the women who made the “rape” allegations in a press release, including a book and a TV program, which led to his identification and defamation.

According to French law, the names of the victims are kept secret and the women who made the allegations against the cleric were not named by the media, but Tariq Ramadan himself mentioned them in his book and on TV.

A French court also fined Tariq Ramadan’s book publishing company for publishing women’s names, but no criminal action was taken against the two.

Tariq Ramzan, who paid a fine for defaming women accused of ‘rape’ in France, has also been tried in the European country of Switzerland on charges of ‘rape’.

According to Press Agency (AFP), the trial of Tariq Ramadan on charges of “rape”, torture and exploitation by a Swiss woman began on November 10.

Following the start of the trial, Swiss prosecutors will investigate the allegations against Tariq Ramadan for the next week and present arguments in court for further action.

If solid evidence is found against Tariq Ramadan, a formal trial could be launched against him.

However, if there is no concrete evidence like the allegations made against her by the French women, it is thought that the case against her will be dismissed. However, it is too early to say anything in this regard.
