Internet service in Pakistan affected by fault in undersea cable

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has said that there are reports of double cuts in the undersea communication cable extending to Singapore and France at several locations in Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 5 affecting internet service across the country. .

In a statement on the social networking site Twitter, the PTA said that the fault in the cable has been identified between the Egyptian cities of Abu Talib and Zafarana.

The statement said that alternative arrangements have been made to continue uninterrupted internet service to customers and work is underway to fix the problem.

On the other hand, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) said that there was a partial disruption in the internet service in the country and some users may face minor problems in the service.

The statement said that PTCL has partnered with the International Submarine Consortium and is working to restore internet service on a priority basis.

It was further stated that the company has adequate service of alternative cables to provide the required services.

It should be noted that the SIM-V-5 submarine cable system was launched in 2016, with a length of about 20,000 kilometers that stretches from the French city of Marseille to Singapore.

There are currently 7 submarine internet cable systems connecting Pakistan, including two by Telecommunications Company Limited, Transworld Associates and a new cable system that recently came online and is owned by a Chinese company. including 4 are active from Pakistan.
