Google has redesigned its most popular service maps to make it easier to distinguish between the natural features of a location.
Google said in a blog post that now, whether it’s snowflakes, deserts, beaches or dense forests, it will be easier for people to identify them on maps.
The redesigned new Maps service will be available in 220 countries and territories where Google Maps support is now available.
The company said that street maps in certain cities will now be more detailed than before.
According to Google, redesign maps use satellite imagery and a new color mapping algorithm technique.
As a result, it has become easier to distinguish between specific areas such as snow-capped peaks, dense forests, lush plains and sandy beaches.
The difference with this technique can be seen in the map of Iceland below.
According to Google, detailed maps of specific cities such as New York, San Francisco and London are also being made part of the service, which will allow people to identify different things such as roads and others.
However, the feature will be available to users in the next few weeks or months, while the company has not yet said which cities will be included.
In contrast, detailed maps of natural features will be introduced around the world this week.
The user will need to zoom out to view them.
