Former Russian Defense Ministry employee sentenced to 13 years in prison for selling secrets to US

MOSCOW (Reuters) – A former Russian Defense Ministry employee has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for selling key documents to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) at exorbitant prices.

A statement from Russia’s Federal Security Service stated that “Yuri Eskenko, a former Defense Ministry employee, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.”

The statement added that the former employee had copied a key document related to the sale and purchase of weapons between 2015 and 2017 and provided it to the CIA in exchange for money.
In July 2019, after being detained for questioning, Yure Eskenko contacted a CIA officer who was re-arrested.

During the interrogation, the accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 13 years in prison by a local court under Russia’s Criminal Code 275 for selling domestic secrets.
