First Test: Pakistan lead by 244 runs in the second innings against England

Pakistan scored 137 for 8 in the second innings after bowling out England for 219 in the first match of the series.

When the game started on the third day of the match being played at Old Trafford, England’s score was 92 runs for 4 wickets.

Naseem Shah dismissed Oli Pope, who played a 62-run innings, after which Yasir Shah took full advantage of his experience and did not allow England to score big.

Jazz Butler (38) and Chris Vokes (19) fell victim to Yasir Shah’s spinning balls.

For England, Archer and Stuart Broad played individual innings of 19 and 29 respectively, causing difficulties to the Pakistani bowlers in the closing moments of the innings.

Shadab Khan took the wickets of Archer and James Anderson to limit England’s score to 219 runs.

For Pakistan, Yasir Shah took the most 4 wickets, Mohammad Abbas and Shadab Khan took 2, 2 while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah took one wicket each.

After taking a 117-run lead in the first innings, Pakistan’s batting line failed completely in the second innings and the first wicket fell to 6 when Shaun Masood, who scored a century in the first innings, was dismissed for zero.

Captain Azhar Ali and Abid Ali took the score to 33 in the second wicket. However, Abid Ali was dismissed after playing an individual innings of 20 runs. Babar Azam’s innings was also limited to 5 runs.

Pakistan lost the first three wickets for only 48 runs while Azhar Ali’s courage was also answered by scoring 18 runs.

Veteran batsman Asad Shafiq and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan tried to put up some resistance by scoring 29 and 27 runs respectively.

Shadab Khan (15) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (2) were all out for 137 runs.

By the end of the third day, Pakistan had scored 137 for 8 and had a 244-run lead.

Yasir Shah 12 and Mohammad Abbas were playing at zero.

Stuart Broad, Vokes and Stokes took 2.2 wickets each for England.

It may be recalled that Pakistan had scored 326 runs in the first innings and Shaun Masood had scored 156 runs while performing brilliantly and became the Pakistani opener to score a century in England after 24 years
