Difficulties for the PCB in finding a sponsor for the team

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing difficulties in finding a sponsor for the Pakistan team while the cricketers in England have no logo on their shirts due to the termination of their contract.

The Pakistani cricket team in England is training without a sponsor logo, the players’ shirts have only the PCB mark on it, the old sweater worn by head coach Misbah-ul-Haq had the logo of the former sponsor hidden with a sticker on it. The PCB’s contract with a beverage company has recently expired, with many companies not showing interest in the advertisement for the new sponsorship.

Sources said that in the past, only the company that used to sell the rights was involved in the bidding. Until the last minute, another company was asked to come but their representative did not come. Later, it was reported that the bids were received by email. After further waiting, it was said that the technical bid of the said company could not be accepted.
Sources said that the only offer is only 30% of the previous agreement, which has caused concern to the board. At present, only a one-year deal is likely, although the marketing department is declaring the Corona virus as a cause of lack of interest. But the facts seem to be the opposite.

The PCB could not get the sponsorship even for the domestic teams despite their best efforts. In this regard, the spokesperson of the board has asked for more details after getting information from the concerned department. According to him, the series started from England. Pakistan team will get a new sponsor before it happens.

It should be noted that the players also get huge income from logo sponsorship, Rs 4.5 lakh in Tests and Rs 225,000 in ODIs and T20s.
