Arthritis medicine also benefits heart patients

Perth: Australian experts have discovered that an arthritis drug “Colchi Sen” also benefits heart patients and protects them from a variety of pre-existing diseases. The study was presented at a recent online conference of the European Society of Cardiology.

It should be noted that colchicine is an ancient medicine which was obtained from the saffron plant (Crocus) in its natural state and was used to treat pain and inflammation. Today, the same medicine is synthetically developed and is commonly used to treat joint pain in arthritis.

The study, which lasted more than five years, registered 5,552 volunteers, all of whom had some form of heart disease.
Half of them were fed 0.5 mg of Kolchi Sen daily for a month, while the other half were given the same amount of other harmless substances.

At the end of the study, it was found that patients who used small amounts of colchicine daily for a month had a lower risk of stroke, heart attack and other heart problems over the next five years.

In the light of this study, experts have suggested that a small amount of colchicine daily should be approved for people with heart and arterial disease, as it is a common and low-cost drug. And secondly, the side effects are very small
