Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, a Hashemite by origin, was born in Şereflikoçhisar, Central Anatolia, and completed his education in a madrasa in Istanbul. He became well-known as the Sheikh of Sultan Ahmed I, who ordered the construction of the famous Blue Mosque, the site of the first Friday prayer led by Aziz Mahmud Hudayi. He was well respected and even had an impact on Sultan Murad III.

Aziz Mehmud Hudayi Episode 2 with Urdu Subtitles Aziz Mahmud Hudayi was of noble descent, descended from Husayn ibn ‘Ali and Junayd of Baghdad. He was called sayyid. He was the founder of the Jelveti order of Sufis and served as an Islamic judge, or qadi, in several places, including Bursa, Egypt, Sham (Syria), and Edirne. His literary legacy is noteworthy, as he was Üftade Hazretleri of Bursa’s teacher and successor. Of his approximately thirty works, seven were written in Turkish. One of the most well-known Sufis in Ottoman Bosnia was Mustafa Gaibi, who identified with Aziz Mahmud Hudayi.

Aziz Mehmud Hudayi Episode 2 with Urdu Subtitles Aziz Mahmud Hudayi was buried in a mosque complex that has since grown to be a place of pilgrimage and devotion when he passed away in Üsküdar, Istanbul. By 1855, Sultan Abdülmecid I had neglected the complex, although he oversaw its enlargement and repair.

Hoca Ali Riza, an artist from Üsküdar, painted Aziz Mahmud Hudayi’s modest home, which is a few miles from the complex, in the middle of the rural landscape of the period. The house, now known as the Çilehane Mescid and overlooked by the contemporary Çilehane Cami, is currently maintained by a foundation named after him.
