Particles from fireworks are dangerous to the lungs

New York: Research has shown that toxic particles from fireworks are extremely harmful to the lungs and can enter the body frequently and cause cancer.

Terry Gordon, a professor of environmental medicine at New York University, says people are generally aware of the apparent dangers of fireworks and protect themselves from them. There is far-reaching damage to the metals used.

For the study, Gordon and his colleagues examined over a dozen of the most popular fireworks in the United States and examined their effects on mouse and human lung cells in the laboratory. At the same time, the average person encounters as many particles as air pollutants, and even after their artificial presence in the laboratory, their effect on the cells was observed.

The study found that metal particles released by fireworks accelerate oxidation and chemical reactions in the body and, if present in the body for a long time, can lead to cell death. They say that people who are constantly exposed to metal particles released into the atmosphere due to fireworks may also be at risk of cancer.

It should be noted that various metals are used for coloring in fireworks, including titanium, starntium, copper and lead. After the fireworks are released, metal particles from them are also released into the air. The researcher also warned local public health agencies of their findings.
