Umar Akmal filed an appeal against the three-year ban

National cricket team batsman Umar Akmal has filed an appeal against the three-year ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB last month banned Umar Akmal from playing cricket for three years.

According to reports, the PCB will form a panel to hear Umar Akmal’s appeal within 15 days.

Earlier, Justice (retd) Fazal Miran Chauhan, chairman of the PCB’s disciplinary panel, had banned Umar Akmal from playing any form of cricket for three years.

Umar Akmal was found guilty of failing to immediately report a match-fixing offer, which was banned by a panel, which held a hearing at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

Umar Akmal appeared in person before the PCB panel, while Pakistan Cricket Board was represented by legal adviser Tafazul Rizvi Advocate.

Umar Akmal, who was suspended before the start of the fifth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was charged with two counts of violating the board’s anti-corruption code.

Umar Akmal was accused of failing to inform the board under the law about access to fixing and violating the board’s anti-corruption code.

Director Anti-Corruption and Security PCB Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Asif Mehmood said that the PCB was not happy with the three-year ban on an international cricketer due to corruption charges but it was a timely reminder for all of them. There are those who think that they can escape by violating the anti-corruption code.
