The statement of not sending the Indian team to Pakistan is “unfair”, Wasim Akram

Geelong: The reaction to the statement of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah not to visit Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 continues.

Former national team captain Wasim Akram says that if Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah wanted to make such a statement, then he should have at least called and talked to Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Rameez Raja. Should have said, Jay Shah’s statement is “unfair”.

The former fast bowler said that Jay Shah should have convened the meeting of the Asian Council and discussed it there as the rights to host the Asia Cup were given by the Council, in which all members were present.

Speaking in a program of a local media channel, he said that India cannot dictate how Pakistan should play its cricket, after 10 to 15 years of waiting, teams have finally started visiting Pakistan. Wasim Akram said that I am a former cricketer, I don’t know what is happening on the political front but it is very important for people to stay connected through sports.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requested to call an emergency meeting on the statement of the president of the Asian Cricket Council, while the chairman PCB gave his response and said that the teams of Australia and England visited Pakistan. While the New Zealand team will tour at the end of this year, India is unnecessarily making the excuse of security.

The spokesperson of PCB said that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, then there may be uncertainty about Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup scheduled in India and the ICC events scheduled from 2024 to 2031.
