The name of the woman who returned the book to the library half a century later is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records

Illinois: Book lovers are very slow to return books. The love of books is such that returning books to those who are afflicted seems like a mountain and sometimes it happens that the readers forget to return the books.

Emily Kenny Los Sims, a woman in the US state of Illinois, saw a book of children’s poems, Days and Deeds, in her home, stamped by the Kiwani Public Library and dated April 19, 1955.

The book was acquired by Emily’s mother from the library for 2 cents a day, and when it was returned half a century later, she was fined 7 347.
Interestingly, this is the largest fine ever levied for returning a book late, and the woman’s name has been included in the Guinness Book of Records for paying the highest fine for returning a book.
George Washington, the first president of the United States, has the honor of returning the book to the library late, having obtained the book The Law of the Nation from the New York Library in 1790, but did not return it.

The building and objects used by George Washington, the first president of the United States, were declared a World Heritage Site after his death, and the managing agency returned the book to the New York Library 221 years later.
