The government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 3.86 and diesel by Rs 5

The federal government has increased the prices of petroleum products by Rs 6.62 per liter.

According to the notification issued by the Finance Division, the price of petrol is being increased by Rs 3.86 per liter, after which its new price will be Rs 103.97.

The notification said that the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs 5 per liter and its new price has been fixed at Rs 106.46.

Similarly, the price of kerosene has been increased by Rs 5.97 per liter to Rs 65.29 and light diesel oil (LDO) by Rs 6.62 per liter to Rs 62.86 per liter.

The Finance Division said that the increase in the prices of petroleum products was due to the rising trend of oil prices in the global market.

The new prices will take effect tonight at 12 noon.

It may be recalled that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had proposed an increase in petrol and high speed diesel prices by about Rs 7-9 per liter for next month while kerosene and light diesel oil prices by about Rs 6 per liter. ۔

However, the government was expected to increase the price of petrol and HSD by Rs 4 to 5 per liter by reducing the rate of petroleum levy, while the price of kerosene and LDO was allowed to increase by about Rs 6 per liter. The possibility was given.

Light diesel oil is mostly used in flour mills and some power plants.

It may be recalled that on June 27, the government had suddenly increased the prices of petroleum products including petrol and diesel by 27 to 66 per cent or Rs 25.58 paise with immediate effect.

The move came as a surprise to many as it was off schedule and did not go ahead as usual due to the submission of a summary by the oil sector regulator.

Most analysts agree that the move was made to alleviate the recent supply disruption that has led to severe shortages in many parts of the country, largely due to a rift between government and industry. There was a price dispute.

It may be recalled that the government had reduced the total price of petroleum products by Rs 56.89 per liter during the lockdown due to Corona virus.

From March 25 to June 1, petrol was reduced by Rs 37.07 per liter, while the price of high speed diesel was reduced by Rs 42.10 per liter, while kerosene was reduced by Rs 56.89 per liter and light diesel by Rs 39.37 per liter. Cheaper per liter
