Sri Lankan cricketer Koshal Mendis has been arrested after a man was killed in a car accident.
The police media unit confirmed the incident, which took place in Panadora, south of Colombo, injuring a local man.
The incident took place at 5 am as a result of which the injured 64-year-old cyclist was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Koshal Mendis is likely to be produced before a Panadura magistrate in the next 48 hours, while police have launched an investigation.
The initial police statement did not indicate whether Mendes or the deceased were under the influence of alcohol.
Koshal Mendis went for a drive on the road after the lockdown imposed by the Corona virus in Sri Lanka eased.
He was part of the Sri Lankan team’s camp in Pallekele, which ends on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has the distinction of representing Sri Lanka in 44 Tests and 76 ODIs and has scored over 5,000 runs in total, while he has also represented Sri Lanka in 26 T20 matches.
