Shahid Khaqan Abbasi issued nomination, non-bailable warrant arrest in another reference

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has nominated former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for reference to the appointment of Sheikh Imranul Haq as Managing Director of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) in a “gross violation of rules and regulations”.

A statement issued by NAB Karachi said that unlawful warrant arrests have been issued for former Prime Minister Petroleum Arshad Mirza along with former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

According to the NAB statement, arrest warrants were issued for Sheikh Imranul Haq, along with former PSO Managing Director Yusuf Sattar, and the accused have been ordered to appear in the accountability court on April 10.

In 2018, the NAB submitted a report to the Supreme Court stating that the evidence shows that the former Managing Director (MD) of Pakistan Muslim League-N’s government, Pakistan State Oil (PSO). Shaykh Imran-ul-Haq’s appointment was based on the principle of anti-regulation and transparency.

The report said there was evidence that Sheikh Imran ul Haq had a conflict of interest with his PSO due to an LNG contract with his former employer (Engro Corporation).

The report also said that Sheikh Imran-ul-Haq misused his powers by appointing Jacob Sattar to the post of Deputy Managing Director a month after he was appointed PSO.

It is to be noted that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Sheikh Imran ul Haq are already named in the NAB’s reference to billions of rupees worth of liquid natural gas (LNG), including the name of former finance minister Muftiah Ismail.

Shahbaz Sharif condemns
On the other hand, Shahbaz Sharif, President and Leader of the Opposition of the PML-N, strongly condemned Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s non-bailable warrant arrest, saying, “NAB and Niazi are fighting the opposition and the media instead of fighting Corona. Is’.

In a statement, the former Chief Minister said that the whole world is united in saving its people and the government’s priority in Pakistan and sending the media to jail.

He said, “If the nation dies, Imran Niazi must thirst for his revenge” and warned that if something happened to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Imran Niazi would be responsible.

Shahbaz Sharif said that prisoners are being released on the one hand, and those serving the country are being arrested on the other.

He further said that “the opposition wants to help the government for the sake of the people but the government is creating chaos”.

Leader of the Opposition said that “Imran Niazi should not punish the people for their disappointments. Nothing has come to the NAB before. This is not the time for political protests.”
