Searching wife’s phone is a crime’

A Saudi lawyer has said that searching his wife’s mobile phone is a crime and no husband has the authority to do so.

According to Urdu News, Nayef Al Mansi said that the law has made it a crime to check the mobile phone of the spouse.

Explaining his point, he said that Section 3 of the Saudi Information Crime Law states that it is a crime for a husband or wife to search each other’s mobile phones.

Nayef al-Mansi added that the law prohibits checking computers and smart devices, and that doing so is a crime.

Speaking on Saudi Arabia’s state-run Al-Akhbariya program “Al-Rasad”, the Saudi lawyer said that if a husband checks his wife’s mobile phone and the charge against him is proven, he could face up to a year in prison and لاکھ 500,000. There will be a fine of riyals.

He added that if parents checked the mobile phones, smart devices or computers of any of their adult children, it would also fall under the category of crime.

At the same time, the Saudi lawyer said that checking the mobile phones of minors is not a crime.

It should be noted that Saudi Arabia had criminalized spying on spouse’s phone in 2018 and it was included in cyber crime.

Violators could face up to a year in prison or a fine of 500,000 Saudi riyals.
