Rape of a 14-year-old girl at India’s largest quarantine center

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by another patient while undergoing treatment at the Covid- 19 quarantine center in New Delhi, the capital of India.

According to The Wire, police said that the main accused and the person who made the video of the rape were arrested.

In this regard, the management of the quarantine center said that the infected girl and both the accused were kept in quarantine on the basis of minor symptoms of corona virus.

The quarantine center where the 14-year-old girl was raped is the largest anti-corona center in India with a capacity of 10,000 beds.

Remember that the incident of rape took place on July 15.

Police told The Indian Express that they had registered a case against the two accused.

“The accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody but they will remain in the care of the institution till they recover from Corona,” said senior police official Parvinder Singh.

He added that he was investigating the incident further.

According to several local media reports, the accused allegedly raped the girl in the bathroom.

The victim informed her caregiver at the quarantine center about the incident, after which the concerned authorities called the police.

It may be recalled that in April this year, the police in the Indian state of Rajasthan had arrested three accused of gang-raping a woman in Quarantine.

According to the Hindustan Times, Rajasthan police had kept the woman in the quarantine center of the state school.

A similar incident was reported in mid-April.

A woman who was stopped at a hospital in Gaya district of Bihar under the pretext of testing for corona was allegedly gang-raped for two consecutive days.

The woman was killed in a gang-rape, after which police investigated the case and arrested a suspect.

A recent report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), an Indian government agency, revealed that one woman is “raped” every 15 minutes in India.

According to the NCBR’s 2017 report, there has been an increase in incidents of violence against women, rape, acid attacks, harassment and other gender discrimination across India and more crimes have been recorded than in 2016.

In 2017, a total of more than 360,000 cases of crimes against women and violence were registered across India, most of which were rape cases, the report said.
