Tennessee: U.S. experts say people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes should be vaccinated first with the Covid 19 vaccine because they are three times more likely to be severely infected with the corona virus than healthy people. ۔
Details of the study, conducted at Vanderbilt University, are published online in the latest issue (December 2020) of the American Diabetes Association’s representative research journal, Diabetes Care.
It should be noted that patients with type 2 diabetes are already at risk of being severely infected with the corona virus, but the incidence of type 1 diabetes was not clear.
The new study also found that patients with type 1 diabetes had almost the same risk of severe coronavirus effects as people with type 2 diabetes.
The study examined the medical records of more than 6,000 Corona patients who were admitted to 127 hospitals and medical centers run by Vanderbilt University between March and August this year.
After examining the case histories of all these patients, it was found that those infected with the novel corona virus, who were already suffering from either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, were worse off than other corona virus sufferers.
Based on this research, experts have advised medical policy makers around the world, including the United States, to give the Covid 19 vaccine to patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, in addition to the elderly and obese, on a priority basis.
