New Delhi: A passenger plane of India Express coming from Dubai to India crashed in two while landing in India, initially 17 deaths including the pilot have been confirmed.
According to Indian media, the India Express flight carrying 191 passengers from Dubai skidded on the runway while landing at Kozhikode airport in Kerala. The crash was so horrific that the plane split in two.
The plane was carrying 174 passengers, 10 children, two pilots and a five-member crew. The nature of the crash and the wreckage of the plane have raised fears of mass casualties, but initially 17 people, including the pilot, have been confirmed dead.
Ambulance and rescue personnel began rescue operations, while other flights were suspended. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Federal Aviation has announced a committee of inquiry into the incident. The Chief Minister has announced a relief amount of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has expressed regret over the plane crash. In his tweet, the Prime Minister said that he was saddened by the loss of innocent lives, may Allah Almighty grant the victims the strength to bear the trauma
