Pakistan’s historic victory in Rawalpindi Test; Clean swept South Africa for the first time

Rawalpindi: Pakistan defeated South Africa by 95 runs in the Rawalpindi Test due to the devastating bowling of Hassan Ali and lost the series after 18 years.

In the first innings of the second Test of the two-match series played in Rawalpindi, Pakistan scored 272 runs in reply to which the visitors were bowled out for 201 runs. The national team was bowled out for 298 in the second innings and gave South Africa a target of 370 to win, in response to which the visitors scored only 274 runs.

In the opening overs on the last day of the second Test, Hassan Ali gave Pakistan two victories. Van der Dawson was dismissed for 48 and Faf Dupleix for 5, but Adam Markram and Dumba Bauma put on a 106-run partnership. Markram scored a magnificent century but as soon as he got the new ball, Hassan Ali sent Markram to the pavilion for 108 runs and on the next ball he also dismissed captain Quentin de Cock which proved to be the turning point of the match.

Tamba Bauma’s resistance was crushed by 61 runs, Wayne Milder was the guest for 20 runs, Dan Elgar played an innings of 17 runs while Keshu Maharaj and Kagisu Rabada were dismissed without opening an account. For the national team, Hassan Ali took five wickets, Shaheen Afridi four and Yasir Shah one. Hassan Ali took 10 wickets in Tests overall.

The opening batsmen of the national team against South Africa also failed in the second innings. Imran Butt 0, Abid Ali 13, Babar Azam 8, Azhar Ali 33, Fawad Alam 12, Fahim Ashraf 29, Yasir Shah 23, Hassan Ali 5 and Shaheen Afridi were out for 4 runs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan completed the first century of his Test career. Noman was dismissed for 45 while Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 115. Left-arm spinner George Linde took 5 wickets. Keshu Maharaj took 3 wickets and Kagisu Rabada took 2 wickets.

Earlier, South Africa captain Quentin de Kock was dismissed for 29 in the first innings, Wayne Milder for 33 and George Linde for 21. Dan Elgar 15, Van der Dawson was bowled without opening an account. Faf Dupleix fell victim to Faheem Ashraf after scoring 17 runs, Eden Markram was dismissed for 32 runs. Tamba Bauma remained unbeaten on 44 runs. For the national team, Hassan Ali took five wickets, while Noman Ali, Fahim Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi took one wicket each.

After the failure of the top order in the first innings, the national team managed to score 272 runs thanks to the responsible batting of Faheem Ashraf, captain Babar Azam and Fawad Alam. Babar Azam (77) and Fawad Alam (45) were all out while Faheem Ashraf (78) remained unbeaten. Imran Butt 15, Abid Ali 6, Azhar Ali 0, Mohammad Rizwan 18 runs were the guests. Hassan Ali, Yasir Shah and Noman Ali scored 8.8 runs. For South Africa, Energy Norji took 5 wickets and Kishore Maharaj took 3 wickets.

After winning the match, the captain of the national team Babar Azam said, “Thank God for such a good victory and thank you for coming to Pakistan from South Africa. When the team supports, there is no pressure and victory against a good team.” Gives confidence to the whole team but will try to correct the mistakes made in the future while Hassan Ali returned a year later after performing in the domestic and bowling brilliantly.
