Pakistani scientists have identified drugs that help treat corona

Pakistani scientists have made significant breakthroughs with the new novel Corona virus, identifying possible drugs to treat it.

In this study by Dr. Panjuani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research at Karachi University, 3 drugs and 2 natural compounds approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of corona virus are important for its treatment.

The researchers identified three FDA-approved drugs, Remedicavir, Squinavir and Darnovir, as well as two natural compounds, Flavon and Quiomarine Drusteus, as important in treating Code 19.

Squinavir and Darnovir are drugs sold under different names that are used to treat and prevent HIV / AIDS but are also recommended for other viruses.

Flavon is a natural compound that is red. In addition to purple fruits and vegetables, it is found in various plant species, while the other compound is commonly used to prevent vitamin problems.

The study analyzed 16 FDA-approved drugs and several natural compounds.

The researchers looked at how these drugs affect the structure of the new novel corona virus and target proteins that target cells.

They discovered that the above drugs and 2 natural molecules target the process of infecting the virus cells or making their own copies.

It should be noted that this study was not conducted on patients but the researchers stressed that more work should be done in this regard which could help in the identification and preparation of a new novel coronavirus treatment on a rapid basis.

The research team included Salman Ali Khan, Komal Zia, Sajida Ashraf, Riaz-ud-Din and Zaheer-ul-Haq.

The study was submitted to the journal on March 1 and accepted on April 30, after which it was published in mid-April.

It should be noted that the remediator has already been approved in the United States to be used for the treatment of people undergoing treatment in the hospital after contracting the new novel corona virus.

Earlier last month, scientists at the University of Karachi’s Jamil-ur-Rehman Center for Genome Research and Dow University made significant progress in developing genome sequences and genetic analysis of the virus.

According to Dawn, the Jamil-ur-Rehman Center for Genome Research (JCGR) at Karachi University, with the help of a local patient, developed a complete genome sequence of the corona virus, the analysis of which revealed that the virus was transmitted to China in Pakistan. Regarding the analysis of the virus, the head of the research team, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed, said that the sample was obtained from a patient who had traveled to Iran and was admitted to Dow University of Health Sciences for treatment. The sample was analyzed at the Karachi University Center.

“The big task of the analysis was to carefully separate the human genome from the virus genome. To complete this task, the team completed the task in less than a week and compared the discovery with international data,” he said. went’.

He said that when the research team compared it with the sequins produced in Wuhan, China, 9 mutations (changes in DNA) were found in different parts of the genome.

“However, the virus is still linked to the virus that spreads from Wuhan. No changes have been seen in the proteins and enzymes that help the virus make its way into the respiratory tract inside the human body,” he explained.

According to Prof. Iqbal Chaudhry, changes in the corona virus are taking place very slowly and it is too early to say what effect these changes may have on the severity of the disease.

On the other hand, a statement issued by Dow University said that this new novel corona virus is making changes in its genetic system according to the local situation.

A team led by Dow University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Saeed Qureshi analyzed the genome sequences of the corona virus, which was based on samples from a local patient.

According to experts, the determination of sequins is a powerful step that could help with vaccines and therapies in the future, but it is still in its infancy and further research is needed.

During the study, the RNA of the virus was isolated from the sample. The virus was transmitted locally to the young man, but the research proved that the virus came from Saudi Arabia and resulted in 15 members of the young man’s family. Infected, indicating that the virus is spreading rapidly locally.

Genome sequences revealed that the sequence of this virus is slightly different from the virus that spreads in Wuhan, with some changes.

The virus began to spread from China and reached Pakistan via Saudi Arabia.

The team said that this is just one case, while several other samples are being analyzed whose patients have been affected in other countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Dow University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Muhammad Saeed Qureshi said the new method was developed by a research team led by Dow College of Biotechnology Principal Professor Shaukat Ali.

He said the Dow University team initially managed to collect blood samples from some patients in March 2020, after chemically separating the antibodies from the patients’ blood plasma. They succeeded in developing a new treatment immunoglobulin.

According to the university team, since antibodies contain undesirable substances and certain viruses and bacteria, the method used to remove all the unwanted particles in the antibodies and produce the final product from the antibodies, namely hyperimmunoglobulin. This method has been used in the past but this method was used for other diseases in the past.
