Pakistan is still waiting for an Apple Store, even though India is exporting iPhones worth $2.5 billion this year.

In the five months since April, India has exported iPhone exports valued more than $1 billion. With the majority of the most recent iPhone models (SE, 12, 13, and 14) currently in production and being exported from India to countries around the world, the connection between Apple and India is proving to be very successful for both the tech giant and for our neighbours. In the year leading up to March 2023, Indian export shipments of iPhones are predicted to exceed $2.5 billion, roughly tripling from the year prior to March 2022.

Apple has begun transferring some iPhone production from China to India, which has been producing iPhones for more than ten years. The report claims that Apple also plans to have iPad devices assembled there. Although Pakistan has even lower property taxes and less expensive labour than the United States, Apple has not even contemplated opening an official Apple Store there, much less producing charging cables.

Due to the hike in import taxes, which also applied to laptops, graphics cards, and other non-cell phone equipment, the price of an iPhone 14 in Pakistan is 419,999. If Pakistan began producing its own iPhones, Indians could purchase them for much less as India is the largest iPhone consumer in the world. The high cost of conducting business, however, is the main issue preventing the majority of global tech giants. It is one of the main reasons why no corporation has formally entered Pakistan, making Pakistani products uncompetitive in global markets.

The Pakistani government keeps “urging” these businesses to set up shop there, but it has failed to address the root of the problem and has instead turned to criticising the businesses, as if it were their responsibility to promote Pakistan’s development. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recently met with Meta’s Global Affairs President Nick Clegg during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly and pushed him to open Meta offices in Pakistan.

The largest online trading platform in the world, PayPal, hasn’t thought about expanding to Pakistan. For the past five years, government representatives have said that PayPal is coming to Pakistan, but this has never materialised. Government representatives recently informed senators present at the nation’s first-ever National e-Commerce Council meeting that PayPal will soon be available in Pakistan. Although I hope to be proven wrong, I don’t believe it will happen. The few IT specialists we have have had a lot of issues due to the state’s inability to bring PayPal.

In the quarter that concluded in June 2022, this large US IT company expects to see revenue virtually treble. According to projections, India’s revenue in the three months ending June 2022 may practically treble since it would produce phones for the US tech giant. The June quarter saw record sales for Apple, according to CEO Tim Cook, in both developed and emerging economies, with significant double-digit growth in nations like Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia and revenue that nearly doubled in India.
