LONDON: A major drug we already have has been discovered to cure kidney cancer and prevent a second attack.
The results of the Phase III medical trial of this drug have come to light and its record has been presented to the European Association of Urology Congress. The goal of this important study was to protect the kidneys from a second attack of cancer after surgical removal of cancerous tumors, a clear method of which did not exist before.
The physiotherapy trial included 1,000 patients with kidney cancer who underwent surgery to remove their kidney cancer and tumors. These people were divided into two groups. Half of them were given the popular aminotherapy drug pembrolizomeb or pembro, while the other half were given a placebo.
Pembro is successfully fed in many types of cancer. This medicine is also given especially to the last stage people suffering from kidney cancer and it proves to be very useful. An earlier study in 20 countries found that it could be useful in early-stage kidney patients.
Two years later, it was found that those who were given Pembro had a 33% lower risk of kidney cancer than those who took fake drugs. Patients were then followed up and the role of medicine in surviving for the next five years was noted.
The study was led by Professor Thomas Paulis, who conducts research at the Barts Cancer Institute at Queen Mary University in London. According to him, Pembro plays a clear and important role in preventing the recurrence of kidney cancer. It also helps to prolong life. Dr. Thomas hopes to use it after some more evidence.
