The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Muhammad Waseem as chairman of the national cricket team selection committee and Saleem Yousuf as head of the cricket committee. Both officials have been appointed for three years, so they will continue to hold the post until the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Both appointments were approved by PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani after completing the final round of online interviews of candidates on Thursday and Friday. Muhammad Wasim’s first assignment is to announce the national cricket team in mid-January for two Tests and three Twenty20 matches against South Africa.
The first meeting of the PCB Cricket Committee will be held in Karachi before the series against South Africa in 2021. Muhammad Waseem, 43, is currently coaching the Northern Cricket Association. His team is currently second in the points table of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Last year, Northern won the National T20 Cup and finished second in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. As Northern’s head coach, Muhammad Waseem was a member of the national cricket team’s selection committee.
The PCB has not made any changes in the composition of the selection committee of the national cricket team. Only the head coaches of the first XI teams of all cricket associations will be included in the selection panel. A new coach will be appointed for the Northern Cricket Association after Muhammad Wasim takes over as chairman of the selection committee. The new coach will take charge of his post in the Pakistan Cup, along with becoming the sixth member of the selection committee.
The last time Saleem Yousuf worked with the PCB was as a member of the selection committee. He was a member of the selection committee of the national cricket team from 2013 to 2015. Saleem Yousuf will now serve as the head of the cricket committee. His panel includes Ali Naqvi (representative of match officials), Umar Gul (representative of domestic cricketers), Urooj Mumtaz (representative of women cricketers), Wasim Akram (former cricketer and media representative).
The responsibility of the cricket committee is to present suggestions on cricket matters to PCB chairman Ehsan Mani, but these suggestions will not be limited to national cricket performance, management, domestic cricket structure, high performance center or playing conditions. The committee will have the power to summon the persons concerned to its meeting.

Both these former cricketers will work in line with the five-year strategy of the PCB. Muhammad Waseem will continue to work as a match referee, selector and coach before that.
The Chief Executive of the PCB said that Saleem Yousuf was a wise and brave cricketer who was well aware of the standards of domestic and international cricket. Muhammad Waseem says he was lucky to have the opportunity to play cricket with talented players and now he will serve Pakistan in a new role, he is hopeful of doing his best in this new role.
He said that there is no shortage of talent in Pakistan and Pakistan has to play more cricket in the year 2021. He will set short term goals as well as long term goals in this period. We will not shy away from making tough decisions.
Saleem Yousuf said that it would be an honor to chair a cricket committee consisting of eminent and knowledgeable people of cricket. My job would be to formulate the best recommendations in the light of their knowledge and present them to the Chairman PCB. He is looking forward to serving Pakistan cricket in this new role with the help of his teammates.
