Mohammad Hafeez accused of concealing property, Tex Rs 26 million

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) imposed a hefty tax on veteran national cricket team all-rounder Muhammad Hafeez in 2014 for hiding property.

According to FBR sources, a tax of Rs 26 million has been imposed on Muhammad Hafeez.

Sources said that when the income tax year 2014 was audited, cricketer Muhammad Hafeez had hidden assets worth Rs 86 million from the FBR that year.

According to the FBR, Mohammad Hafeez was repeatedly given time to explain about Rs. 86 million but he did not give a clear answer.

He said that a tax has been imposed on an experienced player of the national team for not giving a satisfactory answer.

FBR sources said that Mohammad Hafeez went to appeal instead of paying taxes but will be recovered after the decision of the appeal.

On the other hand, sources close to Mohammad Hafeez, who was on a tour of England with the national team, said that he would face the FBR legally after his return from England.

He said that the FBR had demanded tax on the amount of bounced checks whereas in 2014, fraud had taken place with him and the checks received by him had bounced.

Sources close to Mohammad Hafeez said that no money was credited to the account on the bounce check, so how could the demand for tax be made when the report was made contrary to the facts.

It may be recalled that the FBR had in November 2019 issued show cause notices to former national team captain and all-rounder Muhammad Hafeez for non-disclosure of assets worth crores of rupees.

Media reports said that the experienced all-rounder of the national team is accused of hiding assets worth more than Rs 150 million and the FBR has issued a notice to the cricketer after the details of these assets came to light.

FBR sources had said that Mohammad Hafeez did not disclose assets worth more than Rs 150 million, on which he has been issued a notice seeking a reply.

On the other hand, Mohammad Hafeez denied receiving any kind of notice and clarified that he regularly files tax returns and fabricated news is being spread about him
