Mehmetçik (literally: Little Mehmet) is a general term used affectionately to refer to soldiers of the Ottoman Army and Turkish Army. It is similar to the colloquialisms Tommy Atkins, Doughboy, and Digger used for the British, U.S., and Australian armies.
