TOKYO: The municipality of Tokorozawa, Japan, has experimentally installed high-tech gutter covers in the city that can be used to view various comic and cartoon characters or anime in LED displays.
The invention was made to improve the city’s drainage system, north of Tokyo. In Japan, the famous ‘Anne Mae’ characters can now be seen on manhole displays and people pause for a moment to enjoy this amazing sight.
Japan’s popular social color can be seen in these manholes because comic characters and heroes are very popular in Japan. Tokorozawa is the first city in Japan to have solar-powered LED display caps. Experimentally, a total of 27 gutters have LED displays on which some designs appear to change color rapidly. The first cover was installed on the first of this month.
But the tradition of decorating manhole covers in Japan dates back to the 1980s. At that time, the history, culture and divinity stories of the country were displayed on many covers. Since then it has turned into a commercial and business venture and now LED displays have been added.
At five o’clock in the evening, the lids light up automatically and close at two o’clock at night.
