It would be better if the next ICC chairman is not from the Big Three, Ehsan Mani

The process of electing a new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to begin, but the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board says it would be good if the chairman came from outside the ‘Big Three’ this time.

Former chairman Shashank Manohar resigned two months ago, but the ICC boards have not yet decided which method to use to elect a new chairman by a two-thirds majority.

Imran Khawaja is currently serving as the interim chairman of the ICC.

Ehsan Mani, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said that due to the politics introduced by Cricket Australia, the English Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, it would be better for another board member to come. Lead the CC.

Speaking to Forbes, he lamented the delay in the election of the ICC chairman, saying that politics was introduced in 2014 by England, Australia and India to protect their interests. But now they are having trouble getting rid of it because it is no longer in their best interest.

He said that now it would be more suitable for the game if the chairman is not from the Big Three.

Ehsan Mani, who served as chairman from 2003 to 2006, was also offered the post but has resigned as ICC chief himself, saying he wanted to serve Pakistan cricket.

England’s Colin Graves and BCCI’s Saro Ganguly are considered strong candidates for the post of ICC chairman, while the list also includes the names of the heads of the New Zealand and West Indies boards.

“This is a conflict of interest across the board. I have never seen this in the last 17 years and thus the possibility of transparency is reduced and that is why the ICC needs more independent directors,” he said.

In 2017, the Big Three was replaced by a new financial model in which 2016 4.5 billion of the کروڑ 2.7 billion in media rights between 2016 and 2023 was to go to India.

England’s Colin Graves called for a change in the financial model because it costs the rest of the world less than the Indian cricket board.

Under the model, the England Cricket Board receives 13 139 million, while the boards of Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia receive 12 128 million.

Ehsan Mani said that it is not just a matter of financial model but also a matter of monopoly of England and India where they host the Big Three ICC events themselves, pay for hosting them themselves and get money and Benefit from hospitality.

He said that if this financial model was maintained, some countries would not be able to fight for their survival.

Chairman PCB said that we are running without playing India, can you imagine that if it is with Australia and India does not go there.

Ehsan Mani hoped that between 2023 and 2031, the PCB would get the right to host the World Cup.

“We want to host the World Cup in this period. We have shown interest in three or four events, some of which we will co-host with the UAE,” he said
