India: Dismissed software engineer hacks company for restoration

A software engineer who hacked a former company and removed important information from a website has been arrested in India for job restoration.

According to Odyssey Central, the IT expert has been identified as Vakesh Sharma, who worked as a senior software engineer at the company.

The IT specialist was fired during a lockdown over a corona virus over a pay dispute.

According to the report, instead of looking for another job, he allegedly tried in an unusual way to get back to his old job.

Vikesh Sharma hacked the former company’s database and deleted the information of thousands of patients in the hope that the owners of his old company would contact him to rectify the situation.

But that did not happen.

The owner of the company contacted the police for security breaches and an investigation into the hacking was launched.

The IP was traced and apprehended before Vakish removed any further information.

According to the report, he was arrested from Old Mojpur and he also confessed his mistake.

Vikesh Sharma said in his confessional statement that he hacked the database of the former company and deleted 18,000 entries of patients.

He also deleted the billing information of about 300,000 patients and made 22,000 fake entries.

Vikesh Sharma said he did all this in the hope that he would be called back to rectify the situation.
