In Gilgit-Baltistan elections, PTI and independent candidates took the field

In Gilgit-Baltistan elections, unofficial results of all the seats have been received. PTI is leading with 9 seats while PPP is second with 4 seats and PML-N is third with two seats. Independent candidate for 7 seats. Conquered.

According to media, voting for 23 out of 24 seats in Gilgit-Baltistan started at 8 am and continued peacefully till 5 pm. Even in the cold weather, people lined up to exercise their voting right.

PTI and independent candidates took the field

The unofficial and unconfirmed results of all the 23 constituencies have emerged in the elections, out of which the PTI has won 9 seats. The PPP won four seats, the PML-N two and the MWM one, while seven independents won. When the results came out, aerial firing and fireworks were set off at various places in Gilgit and workers of the expected winning candidates celebrated.

PPP’s big wicket fell

Former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and PPP candidate Syed Mehdi Ali Shah was defeated by PTI candidate Raja Muhammad Zakaria from GBA-7 Skardu. According to unofficial preliminary results of 30 out of 30 polling stations of GBA-7 Skardu, Raja Muhammad Zakaria Khan of PTI got 5290 votes while former Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah came second with 4114 votes. According to the unconfirmed results of all 62 constituencies, PPP’s Amjad Hussain won with 11,178 votes, independent candidate Sultan Raees came second with 8,356 votes and PTI’s Johar Ali came third with 403 votes. The number of registered votes in the constituency is 35992.

According to unconfirmed results from all the 30 polling stations in this constituency of Skardu, Raja Muhammad Zakaria Khan of PTI came first with 5290 votes, while former Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah of PPP got 4114 votes. Muhammad Akbar Khan of PML-N got 818 votes. The number of registered votes here is 17,127.

In this constituency, there was a close contest and after unofficial results of all 55 polling stations, Muhammad Kazim of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) won with 7534 votes while PPP candidate Syed Muhammad Ali Shah got 7146 votes. According to unofficial results of all 51 polling stations in the constituency, independent candidate Nawaz Khan won with 6208 votes. His opponent PPP candidate Jalal Ali Shah got 4967 votes and PTI candidate Zafar Muhammad got 3000 votes. There are 37,808 registered voters.

According to unofficial results of all 20 polling stations in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Constituency 20, PTI’s Nazir Ahmed bagged 5582 votes. From here PML-N candidate Khan Akbar Khan got 3815 votes and PPP candidate Ali Madad Sher got 1026 votes. The number of registered voters here is 42,533.

According to the unofficial results of all the 52 polling stations here, PML-N candidate Ghulam Muhammad won with 4334 votes. This is the first victory of PML-N. According to unofficial results from all 48 polling stations in the constituency, independent candidate Abdul Hameed won with 3666 votes. The number of registered votes in this constituency is 20,187 and unofficial results were received from all the 42 polling stations here, according to which PPP candidate Muhammad Ismail was declared the winner with 6206 votes. Syed Shamsuddin of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf got 5361 votes while Manzoor Hussain of PML-N could not get any votes.

Important parties

Many parties including PTI, PML-N and PPP are contesting in the elections. However, PTI, PML-N and PPP competed for the cut while independent candidates also tried their luck and their weight remained heavy.

Polling stations and security

In Gilgit-Baltistan, 1,161 polling stations were set up in 10 districts out of which 418 stations were declared highly sensitive while 311 were declared sensitive. More than 15,900 security personnel were deployed at polling stations to maintain law and order.

Avoid Corona

Due to the Corona epidemic, presiding officers were provided with polling equipment, masks and hand sanitizers to prevent corona.

Voters

The total number of registered voters is 745,361 out of which 453,000 are male voters and 340,000 are female voters. A large number of women voters took part in the polls.

Policeman killed

A police officer who was on duty during polling in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly constituency 18 Tangir in Chilas died of a heart attack.

Leaders of some political parties are raising suspicions ahead of time, Chief Election Commissioner said

Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shahbaz Khan said that he was thankful to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan that the election was successful, the results are being delayed on which the leaders of political parties are raising suspicions ahead of time.

He said that the election day was peaceful and before that the election campaign covering 52 days was also peaceful. These were the historic peaceful elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, which also held four-party conferences four times. Arrangements for the election were complete at all polling stations. I thank the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and the political parties.

He said that some political leaders were raising suspicions about the election on Twitter, adding that it would take time for the results to come out.
