Huawei’s alternative application to Google Maps has emerged

Huawei’s new smartphones, introduced since May last year, have lost access to the Google Play Store, services and apps as a result of US sanctions.

That’s why the Chinese company has added the Huawei App Gallery to its phones, which has so far included a number of apps, while also working on an alternative to Google services.

Now Huawei has introduced its Map app Petal Maps with Mate 40 series phones in comparison to Google Maps.

Earlier, Huawei added Petal Search to its phones as an alternative to Google Search, while Google Docs was replaced by Huawei Docs, which includes documents, spreadsheets and other features.

Petal Map will soon be available in beta version in the Huawei App Gallery, with multi-language support in more than 140 countries.

According to the company, the map will have 2D and 3D navigation as well as support for reaching destinations on foot and by public transport will be available in some major cities at the time of launch.

Petal Maps offers controls to facilitate zoom in and out, while Air Jasper will make it possible to switch between navigation view and map over view.

Users will be able to save locations, businesses and other places of interest by searching in the app.

Huawei claims that all search and navigation data will be end-to-end encrypted.

It already had text and voice input, but now the visual search option has been added.

In fact, it is Huawei’s alternative to Google Lens, in which details are obtained by turning the camera on either side, while in this map app of Huawei, petal search will tell what you are looking at.

Image search results will be in front of the user in the form of an information card instead of a web link.

According to the company, the feature currently works on people, animals, places and foods, but will soon include plant identification.
