Huawei ready to make progress in its operating system compared to Android

US President Donald Trump blacklisted Huawei in May 2019 and imposed various sanctions.

Donald Trump’s term is coming to an end, but the Chinese company estimates that access to Google services may be difficult in the future even after the arrival of the new US president, so it is now moving further on its Harmony operating system.

Wang Chenglu, president of the software department at Huawei Consumer Business Group, said the Harmony OS open source platform will be available to developers on December 18, with the first demo units operating on it operating in January or February 2021.

He said that Huawei employees are working on a new harmonic ecosystem and so far everything is going according to plan.

He said that when the initial reports will be released during the first quarter of 2021, the public beta version can be introduced by April 2021.

Wang Chenglu said that 9% of the company’s smartphones will be ready for this update.

It may be recalled that in September this year, the company had announced that it would introduce smartphones equipped with the Harmony operating system in 2021.

At the company’s annual developer conference, it was stated that the production of phones equipped with Harmony OS is subject to Huawei mobile services, ie how many apps the company makes part of its app gallery.

It is believed that Huawei mobile services were introduced when access to Google Play services was cut off due to US restrictions.

So far, 96,000 apps have been added to the Huawei App Gallery, up from 81,000 in July and 60,000 in March.

In comparison, the number of apps in Google Play and Apple App Store is in the millions.

It is believed that Huawei was blacklisted by the US last year and blocked from accessing the technology of US companies including Google, after which Huawei created an alternative to the Android app ecosystem.

Harmony OS 2.0 will first be part of tablets, car systems and smartwatches.

Huawei’s operating system has now reached 490 million people through various hardware devices and now it wants to expand.

To this end, Huawei has also entered into agreements with a number of home appliance companies in China, most notably car manufacturers.
