Government decides to give 25% ad hoc relief in salaries to federal employees

Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has announced that the talks of the government committee with the government employees protesting against the non-increase in salaries have been successful.

Federal Defense Minister Pervez Khattak while briefing about the decisions taken in the talks said that the employees of the federal and provincial governments had been demanding to close the pay gap for a year.

Pervez Khattak said that in the talks held with the government committee of employees, it was decided that 25 percent ad hoc relief would be given to all federal employees.

He said that the Prime Minister had talked to the two provincial chief ministers and directed them to solve the problems of the employees, so the federal government would also provide direction to the provincial government to close the pay gap after its decisions.

Pervez Khattak said that it has also been decided to upgrade the employees in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the process will start in June after the budget of the next financial year and they will start getting those facilities.

The Defense Minister said that in the June budget itself, ad hoc relief would be included in the scale of their salaries which was demanded by the employees.

Pervez Khattak said that the time scale would be approved but a mechanism would be worked out for it and a policy of performance based development would be formulated which would be implemented in the budget.

He said that at that time the ad hoc relief would be notified by the Ministry of Finance today and it would continue till the decision of the Pay Commission was taken. The decision of the Pay Commission would be applicable across the country.

It may be recalled that government employees staged a protest in front of the Parliament House against the decision of the federal government not to increase the salaries of government employees, during which they clashed with the police after which several employees were arrested. Was

The cabinet meeting on Tuesday could not decide on the increase in the salaries of the federal secretariat employees and the follow-up meeting between the employees’ representatives and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on the issue was also fruitless.

After which government employees went on strike in Islamabad on Wednesday and announced a sit-in in support of the opposition Ittehad Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Government employees gathered outside the National Press Club and at D-Chowk, in addition to the federal capital’s Shahra-e-Dustur, Secretariat block and Cabinet block.

The dominance and exclusion of civil servants was intense shelling of tear gas by the police to disperse while throwing stones at police from government employees.
