Today marks the one-year anniversary of India’s repressive move to end the semi-autonomous status of Occupied Kashmir.
On August 5 last year, the Modi government not only divided Kashmir into two federal units instead of a state, but also allowed non-Kashmiris to buy land there to change the proportion of Kashmir’s population.
Today marks the end of a year of heavy siege of occupied Kashmir and the Modi government had already imposed a strict curfew in the valley for fear of protests.
