A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province and its environs.
The quake that struck Quetta and surrounding areas on Saturday morning was so severe that people panicked and fled their homes, offices and other buildings.
In this regard, the Islamabad Seismological Center said that the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.1 on the Richter scale while its depth was 10 km.
The epicenter was 38km from Quetta.

The quake affected not only Quetta but also Mastung, Pishin and other areas.
According to the US Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake in Pakistan was initially recorded as 5.5.
Earlier, on October 16, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake was felt in the northern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar and Swat.
The epicenter of the previous quake was in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan with a depth of 27 km and a magnitude of 4.9.

It may be recalled that on June 16 this year, an earthquake was also felt in the upper parts of the country including the federal capital Islamabad and Peshawar but no damage was reported.

The epicenter was reported at 5.7 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter at 112km below the ground in Tajikistan.
Earlier, on September 24, 2019, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook Punjab and Azad Kashmir which affected Jhelum and Mirpur area of Azad Kashmir the most.
