Discovery of the first life-saving drug against corona virus

The ubiquitous drug dexamethasone can help save the lives of critically ill patients from the new corona virus.

British medical experts have discovered this and said that this steroid treatment will be the most important development for this dangerous virus.

They found that one-third of patients on a ventilator could be saved from death with the help of this drug, while the risk of death could be reduced in 20% of patients who needed oxygen.

The drug was part of one of the world’s largest trials of drugs currently available in the UK, aimed at testing the effectiveness of corona viruses.

Researchers estimate that if the drug had been available in the UK at the onset of the corona virus outbreak, 5,000 lives could have been saved, and since it is so cheap, it would be very beneficial to developing countries where code 19K Cases of patients are coming up very fast.

He said 19 out of 20 coronavirus patients recover without hospitalization, while most of those who do recover recover, but some require oxygen or mechanical ventilators. Yes, dexamethasone may be helpful for these high-risk patients.

The drug has already been used to treat edema in a number of diseases and appears to help prevent some of the damage caused by the body’s immune system’s response to the corona virus. ۔

This reaction of the immune system is called cytokine storm in medical parlance and can be fatal.

During the study, experts at the University of Oxford administered dexamethasone to about 2,000 patients undergoing corona virus treatment at a hospital and compared the results with more than 4,000 people who had not been given the drug.

The researchers found that the use of the drug reduced the risk of death by 28 to 40 percent in patients with coronavirus on a ventilator, and 20 to 25 percent in patients who needed oxygen. Decreases to

“Right now it’s the only drug that significantly reduces the risk of death, it’s a huge breakthrough,” said Professor Peter Horbe, who was part of the research team.

Professor Martin Landrey, who led the research team, said the results showed that the drug could save the life of one in eight patients on a ventilator.

This steroid can save the lives of one in 20 patients who need oxygen.

Professor Martin said: “There is a clear benefit. Dexamethasone lasts up to 10 days and costs 5 pounds (1035 Pakistani rupees) per patient, so a few pounds can save a life and most importantly. The fact is that the drug is readily available worldwide.

He added that it should be used in hospitals when needed, but people should avoid buying it and taking it home.

The researchers found that the drug did not seem to be helpful in people with mild coronavirus illness because they did not need medical help to breathe.

The study, which began in March and included the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, was discontinued but was discontinued due to increased mortality and heart problems.

Another antiviral drug, remedicator, was also included in the trial and was discovered to help coronavirus patients recover faster.

But the first drug that helped reduce the risk of death in Code 19 patients was not a new and expensive but an old and cheap steroid drug.

The researchers said that this is an opportunity to celebrate because it means that patients around the world will benefit immediately, which is why the results were released immediately because the effects will be felt globally.

Dexamethasone has been used for various ailments such as arthritis and asthma since the 1960s.

The researchers said that if 50 per cent of patients with coronavirus on a ventilator did not survive, a one-third reduction in the risk of death would have far-reaching effects.

The drug is given intravenously to patients in the ICU, and to less severe patients in pill form.

So far, only one other drug has been shown to be effective for patients with Code 19, which is a remediator, but researchers say the evidence is not yet solid, as it is a new drug with limited supply.
