Corona virus; Further extension of PTA mobile device blocking deadline

KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has further extended the deadline for blocking mobile devices in view of the Corona virus.

All GSMA approved IMEIs on mobile networks which are not yet registered with PTA, in the context of PTA Declaration (Quid-19) Registration has been extended by Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) till July 3. This extension has been made in the present situation to ensure ease and social distance to the people. Unauthorized mobile devices will now be blocked from July 4, 2020 and will be notified via SMS.

According to the rules, all mobile devices that are connected to any local mobile phone network via local SIM must be registered within 60 days of using the local network for the first time, but in exceptional circumstances, Blocking Divas, which were supposed to be blocked between March 18 and July 3, 2020, will now be blocked from June 4, 2020.
It is to be noted that PTA had introduced Device Identification Registration Blocking System (DIRBS) under which mobile device users can register their mobile.
