ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed concerns to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that the rate of covid 19 among workers returning home from Gulf countries is too high.
According to a report by the British news agency Reuters published in the Dawn newspaper, the Foreign Office said that the situation of living together in the United Arab Emirates may be helping the spread of the virus.
A Foreign Office spokesman said via WhatsApp that the issue “has been formally raised with UAE authorities and the two governments are working together to find the best solution to this common concern.”
When the British news agency Reuters contacted the UAE Foreign Office, it did not immediately comment.
It is estimated that there are about 1.5 million Pakistanis in the UAE, most of whom are low-income workers who live in shared housing and are now unemployed but stranded due to the limited number of return flights. ۔
According to the Pakistani Consulate in Dubai, about 60,000 Pakistanis registered to return home from the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE has warned it could reconsider its labor relations with countries that refuse to take back its citizens who are stranded here, unemployed or suffering from the corona virus. He has been sent on holiday and now wants to return home.
On the other hand, while the number of corona virus cases is increasing day by day in Pakistan, it is facing difficulties in quarantining thousands of overseas Pakistanis returning home from abroad.
A total of 15,000 cases and 146 deaths from the corona virus have been reported in the UAE, while more than 3,000 people have recovered.
Meanwhile, according to the report of Khaleej Times, India has also planned to return its 2,000 citizens in a week through 10 special flights, which will start from Thursday.
According to the report, all Indian citizens returning to their homeland will also have to stay in mandatory quarantine for 14 days.
According to another Khaleej Times report, Indians wishing to return home from Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports will undergo medical screening and IGM / IGG tests before boarding.
However, those who will be cleared by UAE health authorities or who show no signs of illness will be allowed on board.
