Chest x-rays can predict heart failure

Boston: The condition of the heart cannot be predicted by looking at the lungs, but now computer algorithms and machine learning have made it possible to predict heart attacks and even heart failure from the fluid that accumulates in the lungs.

Experts agree that the accumulation of water in the lungs puts a strain on the heart and increases the risk of heart failure. Experts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a machine learning software that notices the severity of fluid accumulation in the lungs and accurately decides whether it can lead to a heart attack. In the same way, doctors can be helped to know the severity of the disease and patients’ lives can be saved.

MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) first collected and counted countless X-rays. They were analyzed with the help of modern computing and algorithms. Based on this, the software can note the details that are hidden from the eyes of doctors.

With the help of computing power, the same team has been able to diagnose cancer with CT scans, early detection of Alzheimer’s and even with the help of ECGs have learned about more heart problems. It should be noted that under normal circumstances, doctors cannot diagnose and the deadly disease continues to grow in silence.

The MIT team obtained 300,000 X-ray data and included doctors’ opinions on it. In this way, machine learning began to see and understand every X-ray and its associated conditions, and its database grew. The computer was then able to analyze any X-ray in the light of its data and give feedback.

When asked about heart failure, the software made the most accurate prediction that came out of the next data from these patients. The software even showed the severity of heart disease.

After this important development, we can call machine learning a vice doctor because the day is not far when software doctors will be able to give their opinion thanks to their data and computing.
