Can this medicine be a ‘revolutionary cure’ for obesity?

Canberra / Wuhan: Australian and Chinese experts have jointly researched and developed a drug that may be the most effective treatment for obesity in the coming years.

During the experiments on mice, the drug performed well and significantly reduced fat.

According to experts, this drug inhibits the function of “Neuropeptide Y” (NPY) which in turn increases the rate of fat dissolution and reduces obesity.

Let’s say that the peptide called “NPY” is released from our central nervous system and plays a role in many bodily functions.

In addition, if the amount of “NPY” in the body increases, it causes more appetite which does not disappear even after eating good food. At the same time, the process of reducing the amount of fat in the cells slows down, which leads to an increase in obesity.

In contrast, a small amount of NPY reduces appetite and speeds up the elimination of cellular fat.

NPY works by binding to a specific protein, Y1, and affects the cell.

Scientists have invented a drug that prevents NPY from being linked to Y1. He hoped that due to its effectiveness, this medicine would also be useful in eliminating fat and obesity.

The drug was initially tested on mice that were fed a high-fat diet daily for seven weeks.

Two groups of rats were created for the experiment: one was given the drug along with a fatty diet, while the other group was not given the drug.

After seven weeks, it was found that the rats who took the drug with a fat-rich diet gained 40 percent less weight than the rats in the other group.

During these experiments, it was also observed that the effect of this drug was limited to fat cells only, while other body cells were not affected.

Although these experiments are very promising, they are still in their infancy. In the next phase, the drug will be tested on fatty human cells, and if successful, limited human trials will be launched.

If all goes well and lives up to our expectations, it is to be hoped that in the next eight to ten years we will have a drug that will significantly reduce obesity but minimize its side effects.
