Can America recover under Biden’s administration?

The United States of America is passing through a difficult time with a fragile economy, increased unemployment, deteriorating law and order situation and most importantly the devastating impact of Covid-19 pandemic.

United States right now is under the regime transition process with Joe Biden coming out victorious in the recently held 59th presidential election on November 3, 2020.

The Senate and House voted on Thursday this month to certify Joseph R Biden Jr. as the winner of the 2020 presidential election and the vice president Mike Pence also endorse the Biden’s victory and reiterate to stand firm on the constitution.

However, the Biden’s victory in the closely contested presidential election is considered quite controversial by a fair bit of trump supporters and whatever happened in the capital recently is the consequence of the controversial nature of this election.

Now, Biden is going to take charge of the white house later this month with a lot of promises he made during his compaign and the hopes of the American people to take America back on track of the liberal values. America over the course of last four years had suffer a lot under the Trump’s leadership.

The unity of the nation was challenged by promoting racism back to the mainstream politics. Travel ban to different Muslim countries, building a wall alongside the Mexican borders, pointing out Muslims as radical and the harmful changes in the immigration policies contributed much in growing violence and haterd among the multicultural American society.

Now, it’s Biden’s turn to live upto the expectations of the people and to bring back the mutual love and respect with in the society by eradicating racism. Joe Biden has a lot of work to do to align US foreign policy.

How a Biden presidency could change US relations with the rest of the world - Atlantic Council

Trump over the years had adopted a strange foreign policy. He made some bold steps to withdraw American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, which was appreciated by a large proportion of the society but it’s approach in dealing with Iran remained a concern for the international community and for the congressman as well.

The US withdrawal from the “JCPOA” which was signed back in july 2015, means more economic sanctions on Iran could’ve consequences far greater than just a conflict. The recognition of Israel by UAE and Bahrain could be added as the success of the trump foreign policy with in the Middle East but the region is still very much vulnerable to civil war.

One of the most violent region in the world Middle East is very much vital due to the dependency of the western industrialized nations on its oil. So Biden needs to strike the balance between it’s relationship with Iran and other important players of the region like Saudi Arabia and Israel because any disturbance to the hydrocarbon supplies to a already pandemic affected weak economies could be proved devastating.

US also had some bitter experiences while dealing with North Korea under trump administration and it’s relationship with Turkey is also far from normal. The biggest challenge in the foreign policy US faced recently is Chinese growing influence at the global level. The on going trade war between two global giants had a significant impact on the world economy and could be felt around the globe for some time now.

It is by far the biggest challenge Biden’s administration is going to face in the coming days. Biden also need to reassess it’s policy towards the western Europe and the Eurasian region due to the growing concerns caused by Chinese influence as a result of it’s ambitious Belt & Road initiative. US is also challenged by China in the South East Asia and in the Indian ocean as well.

Chinese influence is now growing in African continent as well causing further headaches to the American think-tank. So Biden’s efficiency will be tested while dealing with the China on multiple fronts and to maintain US position as a global hegemon. Trump on multiple occasions tend to follow a more unilateral approach raising concerns among American allies.

So Biden may choose multilateral approach and realign multilateral policies to counter Chinese threat and to maintain it’s Super power status. Apart from China, the most immediate challenge Biden is facing even before it’s possession of the White house is to get America out of the pandemic and it’s revival from the hazardous effects.

The unemployment in the country these days is highest in the history of America. Millions of people are infected with Covid19 and thousands of them are dying every day. Although US has approved few vaccines and the process of vaccination is going on nationwide but this much impact of the pandemic left US to think about it’s health system.

US under Trump also leave the Paris agreement on climate change mitigation in 2017. The world is witnessing a harsh face of climate change for many decades and the process is intenfied with every single passing year.

Today the climate change is one of the most serious threat to the world and withdrawal of the world leader US from a prominent forum which was supposed to work on this very issue is very surprising.

Joe Biden may consider US inclusion in Paris Climate agreement to intensify a coherent and unidirectional approach to save the world from it’s devastating effects. In conclusion, Joe Biden has fair amount of challenges to cope with and it is quite a difficult task to deal but the good thing is Joe Biden is an experienced person already served at the critical positions.
